Closing an investigation

Closing an investigation formalizes the outcome and generates the final report. To close an investigation, navigate to the Conclusion tab.

💡 Note that closing an investigation is irreversible. Once closed, the investigation becomes read-only and cannot be reopened.

Before closing, the investigator will:

  1. Add a summary of findings.
  2. Provide recommendations, define remediation steps, and outline an action plan.
  3. Preview the final report.
  4. Select:
    • Closing date (required)
    • Closing reason (required)

Closing reasons include:

  • Substantiated
  • Partially substantiated
  • Unsubstantiated
  • Unfounded / Exonerated
  • Out of scope

The final report

Once the investigation is closed, a structured PDF report is generated and available for download at any time.

  • The investigation is locked from further edits.
  • The action is recorded in both the investigation activity log and the case activity log.

The downloadable PDF report is fully structured and audit-ready. It includes the investigation plan, evidence, involved people, findings, and final recommendations, as well as the name of the investigator who closed the case.
