Survey question types

When creating a survey, choosing the right question type is key to gathering meaningful data. Below is a breakdown of all available question types in our survey builder.

Single choice

What it is:
Allows respondents to select one answer from a predefined list.

You can enable an “Other” option to let respondents type their own custom answer.

Best for:

  • Yes/No questions

  • Selecting the most appropriate option (e.g., department, gender)

  • Any question with mutually exclusive options

Example:
What is your current employment status?

  • Employed

  • Unemployed

  • Student

  • Retired

  • Other

☑️ Multiple choice

What it is:
Lets respondents select more than one option from a list.

You can enable an “Other” option to let respondents type their own custom answer.

Best for:

  • Choosing multiple preferences or applicable items

  • Situations where answers are not mutually exclusive

Example:
Which benefits do you currently use?

  • Health insurance

  • Meal vouchers

  • Remote work

  • Gym membership

  • Other

📝 Text answer

What it is:
A short text input field, best for concise answers. (The maximum length of the answer is 250 characters.)

Best for:

  • Names

  • Job titles

  • One-word or short phrase responses

Example:
What is your job title?


📄 Multiline text answer

What it is:
A larger text field that supports longer, more detailed responses. (You can set the maximum answer length from 500 to 10000 characters.)

Best for:

  • Open-ended feedback

  • Descriptions, comments, or suggestions

Example:
Please describe your experience with our onboarding process.


📊 Scale question

What it is:
A numeric or labeled scale, usually for rating or agreement.

Best for:

  • Measuring satisfaction or agreement

  • Quantifying attitudes or perceptions

Example:
On a scale from 1 to 5, how satisfied are you with your manager?
(1 = Very dissatisfied, 5 = Very satisfied)


📎 File upload

What it is:
This question type allows respondents to attach a file as their answer. Supported formats are JPG, PNG, PDF, DOC, DOCX, ODT, ODS, XLS, XLSX, TXT, MOV, MP3, MP4, AVI and WAV. The maximum file size is 50 MB.

Best for:

  • It is useful when you need respondents to provide additional material that cannot be expressed in text or numbers alone.

Example:
Employee engagement survey – "If you’d like, share a picture of your home office setup."


📅 Date

What it is:
A date picker field for selecting a specific day.

Best for:

  • Birthdates

  • Meeting dates

  • Time-based milestones

Example:
When did you join the company?


📞 Phone number

What it is:
A field formatted for entering a valid phone number.

Best for:

  • Contact forms

  • Employee directories

Example:
Please enter your phone number.


📧 Email

What it is:
A field formatted for a valid email address.

Best for:

  • Communication or contact info

  • Identifying users/respondents

Example:
What is your company email?


🔢 Number

What it is:
A numeric input field for integers.

Best for:

  • Age

  • Salary

  • Quantity questions

Example:
How many years have you been with the company?


Star Rating

What it is:
An interactive star-based rating system. Star scale is customizable (1–10 stars).

Best for:

  • Quick, intuitive satisfaction ratings

  • Visual engagement
